The Herzen University Institute of Music, Theatre, and Choreography is justifiably one of the leaders in Russian arts education. It is only natural, then, that we are much sought after by international students.

The Institute reaches back many years. Thanks to our long-standing expertise and reputation in the field, students can benefit from a wide range of academic programmes at the highest level.

Today the Institute is successfully engaged in the development of education in different areas of instrumental and vocal performance. Our programmes in choreography – from classical ballet to modern dance – enjoy a high and well-deserved reputation, and the actors’ workshops are headed by professors who combine their teaching at the University with creative careers in cinema and in the leading theatres of St Petersburg.

Prof. Maria
Lavrova


Department of Theatre Art. An Honoured Performing Artist of Russia, is a professor in the Department of Theatre Art. She is a laureate of the Russian Federation National Award and of the St Petersburg Government Award. She also holds the Order of Friendship. Ms Lavrova is an actress at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre – one of the best known theatres in Russia.

Department of Theatre Art. A laureate of the St Petersburg Government Award, is a professor in the Department of Theatre Art. Mr Maksimov is a director at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre.

Prof. David
Goloschekin


A People’s Performing Artist of Russia, is a professor in the Department of Theatre Art. He is Deputy Chair of the Union of Concert Artists of Russia, the founder of Russia's first state jazz philharmonic, which is in St Petersburg, and the founder and artistic director of the students’ Jazz Club at the University. Mr Goloschekin is a multi-instrumentalist, an author and the host of popular radio programmes about jazz.

Barkovsky


An Honoured Performing Artist of Russia, is an associate professor in the Department of Theatre Art. He has been awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for Service to the Fatherland (2nd class). Mr Barkovsky is also an actor at the Youth Theatre on the Fontanka. In his career, he has played over 150 roles on stage and in film.

An Honoured Performing Artist of Russia, is a leading actor of the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre. He has p¬erformed more than 50 roles on stage and in film.

Asadullin


An Honoured Performing Artist of Russia and a People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, is a professor in the Solo Voice Department. He was quite a well-known pop singer at one time.
