The forum on the problems of physical education of university students was held in Shanghai under the auspices of the Chinese - Russian Union of Higher Education Institutions. Representatives of eight Chinese and seven Russian teacher training institutions attended the forum. In the course of the forum, a new version of the Union's Charter was adopted, which consolidated the organizational foundations of the Union's work.

The opening ceremony held at the East China Pedagogical University was attended by representatives of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the PRC, Liu Jiaqing, and the Consul of the Consulate General of Russia in Shanghai, Alexander Shmanevsky.

The Forum’s plenary and panel sessions were mainly focused on the ways to improve the effectiveness of university physical education. Other areas of cooperation between Chinese and Russian universities were identified as well.

Director of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, Professor Yuri Lobanov a made a report at the forum, in which he formulated theoretical and practical views on the strategy for the development of physical education in the Russian universities and the possible areas of cooperation in the field between Russian and Chinese universities.
