Master’s Graduate Irina Nadoyan (Faculty of Physics, Herzen University) Named Among the Best University Graduates in St Petersburg
Published 08.10.2020
Traditionally, the official celebration for the best St Petersburg graduates is held in June, but this year it was postponed until 18 September because of the pandemic. Still, the festive atmosphere was palpable.

The 18th ceremony, which took place in the Commandant’s House in the Peter and Paul Fortress, started with a speech by Vladimir Knyaginin, Vice Governor of Saint Petersburg.  He greeted the recent graduates on behalf of the Saint Petersburg administration, “We are very proud of all of our graduates. We do believe that Saint Petersburg is a great place to be starting your career and possibly a family. Even if you do leave our city, we hope that you might advise your future children to come study at your alma mater. I wish you all the strength to face any challenges and start a successful career.”

Along with friends, family, rectors and lecturers, other city officials came to honor the best graduates, too.     Among them were Andrei Maksimov, the head of the Committee for Science and Higher Education, and Aleksei Demidov, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Saint Petersburg Universities.  The Herzen University delegation was headed by Vitaly Kantor, Vice Rector for Inclusive Education.

To commemorate the occasion, the graduates were presented with bronze sphinx figurines, the sphinx being the symbol of the Council of Rectors, and with recognition letters from St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.
The celebration concluded with the customary midday shot from the Naryshkin Bastion cannon honoring all recent graduates from St Petersburg universities.
Irina Nadoyan has helped organize and taken part in numerous physics conferences and contests; in 2019–2020, she received a scholarship from the Russian government for her academic publications; she is the author of 12 scientific papers and the winner of Miss Herzen University Science 2016.
