The programme is focused on legal translation and interpreting and specifically addresses the following key competences:
  • translation and interpreting of highly specialised and complex legal texts
  • understanding and description of legal terminology in Russian and English from the standpoint of linguistics and comparative law
  • mastering the language of English private and public law, including procedural branches of law
  • mastering the language of international commercial arbitration
  • mastering the language and translation of various types of legal documents
  • comparing the English-language versions of civil-law legal texts with authentic British legal language and terminology
  • making optimal translation decisions based on linguistic analysis and knowledge of comparative law
  • using linguistic tools in legal work and vice versa
