The Herzen University Institute of Foreign Languages is one of Russia’s oldest and biggest language training institutions. Our graduates are well-prepared to embark on a career in translation and interpreting, teaching or research.

They work in educational institutions, mass media agencies, and both for-profit and non-profit organizations as translators and interpreters, copywriters, foreign correspondents, marketers, and client managers.

Arnold

A world-renowned scholar who taught at Herzen University. She founded the school of thought known as Decoding Stylistics.

Raimond
Piotrovsky

A professor at Herzen University. He was an expert in applied and quantitative linguistics.

Efim
Etkind

A Russian and French philologist who was also a professor at Herzen University. He translated European poetry and founded a school of poetic translation.
